The BJPs 24 MLAs on Sunday decided to quit the Jharkhand Assembly, which has been under suspended animation since the imposition of Presidents rule on January 19.
After a meeting at the party office here, the MLAs handed over their resignations to Jharkhand BJP president Raghuvar Das. Now our partys parliamentary board will discuss the issue and after it gives its nod,the resignations will be handed over to Speaker Alamgir Alam, said Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Sanjay Seth.
The 81-member Assemblys current strength is 63. Should the BJP MLAs go through with their decision to resign from membership, the Assembly strength will come down to 39.
The principal opposition party has been demanding dissolution of the Assembly since the time the state was put under Presidents rule in the wake of Chief Minister Shibu Soren losing a by-election and being forced to step down. It had expected elections to be held along with the polls in Maharashtra,Haryana and Arunanchal Pradesh, scheduled for October.
