The latest issue of Screen (May 20) had interesting news and write-ups about three huge talents of Hindi cinema that are rusting for different reasons Madhuri Dixit-Nene,Subhash Ghai and Amit Kumar, each one of them being a powerhouse of talent that has yet to be fully exploited and who are much less active in Hindi cinema than they should be because of different reasons. Madhuri Dixit was the uncrowned box-office queen from Tezaab to Dil To Pagal Hai and as of now,is the last female superstar in Hindi cinema. After her marriage, she has rightly concentrated on home and hearth, but her heart still is in films and so she has done the occasional Lajja and Aaja Nachle. However,I feel that Hema Malinis role in Satte Pe Satta will not be worthy of her talent. Subhash Ghai has lost his way because from Pardes to Yuvvraaj he has tried to be someone he is not,and the hugely-talented filmmaker who made such vital points at the Screen Big Picture event, must go back to the films he was best known for from Kalicharan to Khal-Nayak. He must return to his blockbuster entertainers with memorable characters, terrific scripts and unforgettable music. Finally,Amit Kumar remains the only singer from the post-giant generation who still packs a punch whenever he sings a rare film song (as in Page 3,Apna Sapna Money Money and others). His singing is still a powerful as ever and his voice so contemporary that it will fit every artiste among the current stars from Shah Rukh Khan to Hrithik Roshan,Abhishek Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor. The film industry needs these huge talents to revive in these days when a motley group of men and women with confused sensibilities are making Hindi films lose their identity, connect and calibre.
