Indirect tax collections up 10.4

Service tax collections grew 37.4 per cent to Rs 97,389 crore in 2011-12 from Rs 70,896 crore in 2010-11.

Customs duty collections fell 8.8 per cent to Rs 11,594 crore in April 2012 from Rs 12,714 crore in April 2011 on account of duty cuts on petroleum products last year,duty drawback outgo and lower collections on gold imports,Central Board of Excise and Customs CBEC chairman SK Goel said on Monday while releasing the data.

Total indirect taxes collection comprising of excise duty,customs and service tax jumped 10.4 per cent to Rs 33,045 crore in April 2012 from Rs 29,936 crore in April 2011,on account of the 2 per cent increase in excise duty and service tax rate that came into effect from April 1,2012.
