AN Afghan parliamentary delegation led by prominent Tajik leader Yunus Qanuni poured their heart out before Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee last week. Qanuni, particularly, voiced concern over continuing with the presidential system in Afghanistan. Under this system,he argued,no minority community could aspire to head the government in Kabul and end up strengthening Pashtun dominance, which is what caused all the warlordism in the first place. He conveyed that the Indian parliamentary system was best for similar societies like Afghanistan, ensuring better opportunities for minority groups. The team hoped that the two leaders of Indias Parliament could add their weight and garner support to introduce some change in the Afghan system before the next polls there.
