With the Opposition unrelenting in its demand for Beni Prasad Vermas apology for his remarks against Vajpayee,Home Minister P Chidambaram had to step in to save the day for the Congress. Speaking at the top of his voice,he made his reply to the Liberhan Commission report heard over the din in the House caused by slogan-shouting Opposition members. The ruling partys crisis managers confided they had sensed that the BJP did not want the governments reply to the debate that day. After Sushma Swaraj tore the Commission report apart in her speech talking of its glaring errors and contradictions, the BJP wanted her speech to dominate the headlines the next day. However, the Congress was as determined to make its reply. It succeeded, for the next day it was Chidambaram who made the headlines.
