HC summons lower court records after Lalu appeal

The court has called for the relevant documents from the lower court, said Prabhat Kumar,who is part of Lalus team of lawyers. The honourable High Court has also asked to serve notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation, he added.

The former Bihar CM had Thursday moved the HC against his conviction,five-year prison sentence and Rs 25 lakh fine imposed by the special CBI court of Pravas Kumar Singh.

The court also allowed 11 of Lalus co-convicts all either Animal Husbandry Department officials or suppliers bail as they have already served considerable time in prison. R K Rana is the only other politician who has filed an appeal. The matter is expected to come before the court for hearing next Friday.

The lower court had on September 30 found Lalu and 44 others guilty in the case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa Treasury during the RJD regime in the 1990s and pronounced varying prison sentences against them on October 3.
