Guwahati blasts: NDFB chief gets bail

Daimary alias DR Nabla,however,has five more cases for which he has been fighting for bail,only after which he will be able to walk out of prison.

Ranjan Daimary,chairman of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland NDFB and the prime accused in the Assam serial blasts that killed 98 people and injured over 400 in October 2008,was granted bail by Kamrup Sessions Court here Thursday.

Daimary alias DR Nabla,however,has five more cases for which he has been fighting for bail,only after which he will be able to walk out of prison. He is currently lodged in the Guwahati Central Jail.

The CBI case for which Daimary was granted bail by the Kamrup Sessions Court today relates to the serial blasts of October 30,2008 in Guwahati and several other towns. There are,however,five more cases against which we are pleading for bail,which include four TADA cases and one case filed by the Special Operations Unit of Assam Police, Daimarys counsel Manas Sarania told The Indian Express.

Daimary,brought to India after his arrest in Bangladesh in May 2010,was named as the mastermind of the serial blasts in the CBI chargesheet that altogether has 22 names. Of these,14,including Daimary,are in judicial custody.

The court,however,imposed as many as eight conditions while letting Daimary off in the CBI case relating to the October 2008 serial blasts,which includes one debarring him from giving interviews to the media. The court has also directed the Assam government to provide him security in case there was any threat to his life after his release, his counsel Sarania said.
