Govt rebuts BJP: Most terror cases solved

More arrests to be made in Samjhauta case,says MHA

A day after the BJP said that no terror case has been solved by investigating agencies ever since the UPA came to power in the Centre eight years ago,the Home Ministry rolled out statistics claiming that all major terror incidents in the last decade has been solved.

The MHA also claimed that the probe in right-wing terror cases has gathered pace after the arrest of former RSS worker Kamal Chauhan by the National Investigation Agency NIA and there will be more arrests in some of these cases.

In a statement,the Home Ministry said six terror cases 2006 Malegaon blast,2007 bombing in Samjhauta Express,Hyderabads Mecca Masjid and Ajmer dargah and 2008 explosions in Malegaon and Modasa are being reinvestigated and one of them,Modasa is on the verge of being solved. The NIA,according to sources,has identified the real perpetrators of Modasa blast in Gujarat and will soon question them.

All these terror acts were allegedly carried out by right-wing extremist forces and their probe by investigating agencies are at different stages. The Home Ministry said the NIA had arrested Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Swami Aseemanand,Lokesh Sharma,Devender Gupta and a few others in connection with these cases. Recently,the NIA has arrested Kamal Chauhan and it is expected that more arrests will be made leading to solving of the above cases, the statement said.

The MHA said that 39 of the 46 cases related to major terrorist strikes that were reported since 2000 have been solved. Since May 2000,there have been 46 major terrorist incidents. Of these,all but seven cases have been solved. In nine cases,convictions have been obtained. In the remaining 30 cases,charge sheets have been filed in 29 cases and trial has commenced in 19 cases. Two cases ended in acquittal and appeals have been preferred, the MHA statement said. The MHA said that of the seven unsolved cases,four are close to being solved.

The statement said the recent busting of an Indian Mujahideen module by the Delhi Police has revealed that the terror group was responsible for bomb blast at German Bakery,Pune,on February 13,2010,blast near Chinnaswamy Stadium,Bengaluru in April 2010,Jama Masjid shootout and blast on September 19,2010 and 13/7 serial blasts in Mumbai.

As regards the German Bakery case,one charge sheet has been filed,one of the accused is facing trial,and six accused have been declared absconders, it said.
