Stars are revving up their wardrobes with desi outfits. Is it the rustic feel in films thats driving this craze or just the emergence of a new yet welcome trend? It was just a while ago that the jackets worn by Emma Watson, the Harry Potter actress, shot to fame. Not to forget Deepika Padukones shorts,mini-skirts and casual T-shirts that became a huge fashion rage post the release of Break Ke Baad. Actresses including Sonam Kapoor,Sonakshi Sinha,Katrina Kaif, among others, flaunted their Versace dresses,Chanel bags,Burberry jackets,Gucci jeans et al till recently. But the fashion tide is soon changing. B-town celebs are now being sported in the desi outfits including saris and kurta-pyjamas at various premieres and functions. The changing trend only reiterates that fashion is often defined by films. Consider the recent crop of films on rustic India like Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey and Dabangg. Actresses starring in these films have given western outfits a miss. In No Problem too the Indian sari seems to be a favourite among the leading ladies Sushmita Sen and Kangna Ranaut. Joining the bandwagon are Deepika Padukone,Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Abhishek Bachchan sported a dhoti-kurta at the music launch of his film Khelein Hum . and a smart black Nehru style kurta and white pyjamas at the premiere of the film. Aishwarya followed hubbys footsteps and chose to wear a sari at both the events. At the same premiere, leading lady Deepika too donned the traditional attire with great elan. But,the surprise was Genelia DSouza, who not only wore a sari but carried it really well. Kudos to the young actress for embracing the ethnic look. Here's a look at all the stars who went desi: Abhishek Bachchan sported a simple desi look in a dhoti-kurta at the music launch of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. At the premiere of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey,Deepika Padukone looked traditional yet trendy in the bright red sari that bared her midriff in just the right way. Amitabh Bachchan carries off a suit as well as a Pathan suit well. The shawl and white sandals just add to the Indianness. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has got an international face and yet knows how to carry off the traditional attire with elan. In a peach-and-white sari Kareena Kapoor reasserts that fashion is not just about big brands. We loved Imran Khans traditional get-up that was quite unlike his usual trendy and casual look. Svelte and classy Katrina Kaif carried off the desi look like a true blood Indian. Shimmering saris look great on Priyanka Chopra. Remember the gold sari she wore when she danced to the tune of Desi girl? Who would imagine that Genelia could carry off a sari with so much style? Spotted at a premiere, the actress looked comfortable in her new avatar. The thin strip of zari running across the black sari worked for us. We hope to see Soha Ali Khan in a sari more often. Heels and high-street labels formed the core of Sonam Kapoors wardrobe. But her attempt to work up a different yet unique look is praise-worthy. An epitome of Indianness,Vidya Balans style is oomphy and sensual. Women are bound to follow her.
