Ghosh sent to five-day custody,Oppn raises pitch for CBI probe

The Opposition raised the pitch of its demand for a CBI probe into the Sharada scam.

Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh, who was arrested Saturday on charges of colluding with Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen in duping millions of investors, was Sunday remanded in police custody for five days by a Bidhannagar court.

On Sunday morning, the police seized a computer from his house at Garpar and searched for certain documents. Meanwhile, the Opposition raised the pitch of its demand for a CBI probe into the Sharada scam, saying the agencies investigating it could never get to the real perpetrators.

We reiterate that it is only the CBI under the monitoring of the Supreme Court which can unearth the truth. So many states are involved. Ministers and MPs of TMC are involved. We made this demand to the PM as well as the Union Finance Minister, Surya Kanta Mishra,Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, said. Union Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Choudhury said only a CBI probe could bring out the truth. Mamata Banerjee ran a corruption network and Kunal was just a cog in the wheel. There are other sharks who are hiding. The arrest of Kunal Ghosh led to a suppression of facts. He mentioned so many names, Choudhury said.
