Ghosh brother faces action under arms Act

A special medical board has been constituted to examine the condition of former minister and CPM leader Sushanta Ghosh.

A special medical board has been constituted to examine the condition of former minister and CPM leader Sushanta Ghosh, who was admitted to hospital on Saturday after he complained of uneasiness.

Ghosh, who was arrested on Thursday in connection with the recovery of skeletons near his house, may be booked under the Telecom Act for possessing unlicensed wireless transmitters and his brother under the Arms Act for the recovery of live cartridges from his home.

On Sunday,Ghoshs condition was said to be stable though doctors recommended keeping him under observation for the next 24 hours. Several tests, including ECG and ECO,were conducted on him. Ghosh suffers from hypertension and is on medication.

The CID had seized 16 rounds of live cartridges on Saturday from Ghoshs ancestral home at Benachapra and two wireless transmitters from his Chandrakona home.

There are legal implications of possessing unlicensed wireless transmitters. It is a violation of telecom regulations. We are going to lodge complaints against Ghosh under the Telecom Act, said K Jayaraman,DIG,CID Operations.

Jayaraman said a case would also be lodged against Prashanta Ghosh under the Arms Act. We recovered live cartridges from the Benachapra home where Prashanta Ghosh lives. He is absconding and our teams are looking for him, said Jayaraman.
