Gandhi book: Cong says govt to take ban call

If the government has to take any action legally,the Congress does not want to comment, he said.

The Congress on Friday left it to the government to take a call on Joseph Lelyvelds book,Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India,citing Gandhi spirit and the authors rebuttal that he made no suggestions about his sexual preferences or racism.

Gandhis persona is far too capacious to be touched,much less affected,by insults8230;But because Gandhi was so magnanimous,it does not mean that people will take potshots at him. Keeping in view Gandhi spirit,specific denials of the author himself that he had not intended these meanings8230;we leave it to the government to consider all appropriate aspects, Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said on whether the party wants a ban on the book. If the government has to take any action legally,the Congress does not want to comment, he said.
