Gadchiroli attack: Officials say lack of coordination

The CRPF convoy, which was attacked by the Naxals on Tuesday, had allegedly discounted the possibility of danger along the patch of the road that was yet to be cleared by the road-opening party they had overtaken to move ahead. The attack near Pushtola village in Gadchiroli left 12 dead and 28 injured one of them is stated to be serious.

The convoy was allegedly in a hurry as CRPF chief Vijay Kumar was to be present at a civic action programme at Fulbodi Gatta8230;and the convoy wanted to reach in time, said a CRPF jawan.

Its true that it was a result of lack of coordination. We moved so many companies and thousands of security personnel during the recent zilla parishad elections, but nothing happened. Clearly, this was an avoidable lapse, said another officer.

The last road-opening along the ill-fated stretch of road was done in February, which means the IED was planted in the past one month, sources said. Asked how Naxals could think that they had a chance there on Tuesday,a senior official said,They knew the civic action programme had been organised at Gatta. And they seized their chance to strike when the CRPF made the mistake.
