Foxconn India workers arrested for illegal strike

We have been in talks with the labour union and have come to an agreement,but some workers engaged in illegal activities and were thus arrested by the local police,Vincent Tong,Foxconn8217;s senior director said.

Foxconn International and parent Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd are among China8217;s biggest private-sector employers. Its labour practices have been under the spotlight after more than 10 suicides at its south China plant.

Foxconn8217;s plant in India,located close to the southern city of Chennai,employed thousands of workers and paid salaries that exceeded market standards in the area,Tong said,declining to give a specific number.

Students amp; Scholars Against Corporate Misbehaviour,a labour activist group,said in a statement that Foxconn8217;s Indian workers were paid about 106 per month,about a third of what employees at its main south China plant receive.
