When Yash Patnaik conceived a horror film Kaalo,he decided to do away with cliches like creaking doors, mewing cats and fluttering birds making eerie sounds during the night. To make my film a complete departure from the cliched haunted house where ghosts appear during the night,I shot it in the open in a desert in Jaisalmer. To make it still more interesting,I shot during the day, making it the first horror film to be picturised thus, says Yash, who is also the producer of television series Aahat.
To create the fear element Yash and his team created Kaalo,a devilish-looking winged creature with claws that moves stealthily under the ground, ripping the earth apart when it emerges out. To add to the eerieness we have also created new sounds like buzzing insects and howling winds. Kaalo is in reality a martial arts expert padded in prosthetics and silicon, reveals Yash, adding that in the film the creature is the ghost of a witch who was killed by the villagers.
Kaalo, which won the best film award at the horror film festival in South Africa, stars Aditya Shrivastava,Paintal, child actress Swini Khera and others. It is directed by Wilson Louis and releases on December 17.
