Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, who heads the outgoing Public Accounts Committee PAC of Parliament,is among the 15 Lok Sabha members elected to the most prestigious panel for the next term. Since the chairmanship of the committee traditionally goes to a nominee of the principal opposition party,Joshi is likely to continue in the post.
No election was needed because there were as many nominations as the seats in the panel. The composition of the body would be complete once the Rajya Sabha undergoes a similar exercise.
The Congress has brought former Union minister of state for foreign affairs Shashi Tharoor into the committee along with Ashok Tanwar and S Sathyanarayanan. They have replaced Jagdambika Pal,K Sudhakaran and K Samba Siva Rao. The Saqmajwadi Party has opted for Dharmendra Yadav, nephew of party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav,in place of Rewati Raman Singh. Congress,Anandrao Adsul Shiv Sena,Baliram BSP,Anant Hegde and Shripad Naik both BJP,Bhartruhari Mahtab BJD and M Thambidurai AIADMK would continue.
UPA playing divisive politics over varsity: Bihar
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Sunday charged the UPA government with going back on its assurance to set up a Central University of Bihar CUB at Motihari and said it was playing divisive politics.
The UPA government reneged on its earlier promise to set up the CUB at Motihari, the work place of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, and is now playing divisive politics by asking the state governments consent for Gaya as the location for it, Modi told reporters.
He urged the Centre to approve Motihari as the central universitys venue in deference to sentiments of the people of Bihar instead of harping on lack of an airport and other infrastructure.
