Besides the divergence of views on the 2G spectrum case,CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta had another grouse against him. He has complained of bad editing in the manner in which Chacko has dealt with his dissent note.

Whats brewing

President Pranab Mukherjee had a quiet meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi over tea last week. It was their first meeting after Mukherjee summoned senior Cabinet ministers over the controversial ordinance regarding convicted MPs and MLAs. Sources described Sonias meeting with the President as a courtesy call. Before the Cabinets decision on the ordinance,Mukherjee had hosted lunch for Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Law Minister Kapil Sibal. The list of prominent leaders for whom Mukherjee has hosted lunches and dinners recently includes CPIM general secretary Prakash Karat among others.

Radio overdrive

While the BJP was quick to replace Vijay Goels posters in the national capital after Harsh Vardhan was picked as their chief ministerial candidate,the party is trying to make up for the lost time. It has come out with three radio spots,which are aired in almost every commercial break of most of the FM Radio channels in the city. These highlight Vardhans leadership,Modis assurance of shasak nahin sevak not a ruler,but a public servant,and the partys promise to keep price rise in check. Party leader and in-house professional Nalin Kohli has been roped in to voice these assurances at the end of each jingle.

Finally,ITBP gets DG

National Police Academy director Subhash Goswami was appointed Director General of ITBP on Wednesday,finally filling the vacancy after a gap of almost two months. The absence of a DGP was being felt by the ITBP. For the first time in its history,the ITBP even held its Raising Day parade this year without any DGP.

AMID overseeing the BJPs poll preparations in Delhi and drafting the partys vision document for next years Lok Sabha elections,Nitin Gadkari,the BJPs man in charge of the Delhi elections,had reason to celebrate earlier this week. Ticket-seekers gathered at his Delhi residence were surprised when they were offered sweets. The reason: Gadkaris son Sarang had been blessed with a son. The proud grandfather was soon flooded with congratulatory calls and messages.
