While Sahebganj police arrested a man who allegedly raped a passenger in the vehicle he was driving on Thursday night,Chatra police have arrested two persons for allegedly trying to rape a woman on Friday night.

On Thursday night, the driver of a vehicle meant to take pregnant women in rural areas to the nearest health facility, under the NHRM-UNICEF effort allegedly raped a 45-year-old tribal woman. The woman was one of the many passengers he had taken on a trip back after dropping a pregnant woman at a hospital. The driver was charging a fare from all of them. The victim was his last passenger, said Sahebganj SP A Vijaya Laxmi. The woman has gone to her family after medical test. Her clothes have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, said the SP. The vehicle, called Mamta Vahan,is a Bolero and has been seized by the police.

The Chatra police are on the lookout for the man instrumental in abducting a 19-year-old Dalit woman. The girl had reportedly come to town to take part in Ramnavami celebrations. Three men took her forcibly to an area near the town and two of them attempted to rape her, said SP Anup Birthare. The result of a test to confirm rape is awaited,he said. We have booked two persons on charges of attempt to rape, which is enough to send them to judicial custody, said the SP.
