Deploy CISF at dam,Jaya tells PM

In view of the violent activities reported at the dam site,it is imperative that Central forces be deployed at the dam immediately.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa Sunday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to order deployment of CISF at Mullaperiyar dam site to avoid any man-made catastrophic consequences in view of violent activities reported there.

In view of the violent activities reported at the dam site,it is imperative that Central forces be deployed at the dam immediately. I,therefore,request you to order deployment of Central Industrial Security Force at the site to avert any man-made catastrophic consequences immediately, Jayalalithaa said in a letter to the Prime Minister.

Jayalalithaa said there have been reports of vandalism organised by certain political parties of Kerala at the dam site.

BJPs Idukki march turns violent

BJP workers who took out a march demanding urgent steps to resolve the Mullaperiyar dam dispute turned violent at Vallakkadvau near the dam area on Sunday. Several party workers were injured as they clashed with police who were raising barricades,BJP leaders said. Police,however,blamed the marchers for the situation. BJP8217;s youth wing Yuva Morcha organised the programme of symbolically digging a canal near the dam site to highlight the need for urgent steps to ensure safety for Kerala while assuring water to Tamil Nadu.
