Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said the CRPF will have to acquire an intelligence-based strategy to combat Naxalism. He was speaking at a function to inaugurate the first-ever intelligence training school for the force’s personnel at its academy at Kadarpur here.

“The pattern of deployment has changed over the years. It is no more deployment for a few days and returning to your headquarters. Counter-insurgency and countering Left Wing Extremists require a very different strategy and approach,” the minister said, adding that the CRPF does not only require to develop intelligence about its adversary but also develop intelligence for its operations, work with the community and build confidence among the people in that area.

“We will also inaugurate a hospital here shortly. We have expanded and will have medical colleges and super specialty hospitals for the forces,” he said. CRPF Director General K Vijay Kumar said the school will enable the force to work in a more professional manner.
