Congress Wednesday confirmed the return of rebel Trinamool Congress MP from Diamond Harbour,Somen Mitra,to its fold.

He has made his mind to rejoin the party, which he once led. We welcome him back to Bidhan Bhavan where he used to occupy the post which I am holding now, Pradip Bhattacharya,West Bengal Pradesh Congress president, told The Indian Express.

Interestingly,Mitra, who participated in a blood donation camp along with Bhattacharya and other senior leaders of Congress in Kolkata Wednesday said: When I rejoin Congress,I will tell everybody because I have never done anything in a clandestine manner.

The maverick TMC MP drew flak from CM Mamata Banerjee for not attending the party convention at Netaji Indoor Stadium Monday.

Last week,Mitra had said he would take a decision on rejoining Congress after Diwali. There is speculation that Mitra may be given the Kolkata North seat, currently held by TMCs Sudip Bandopadhyay.

According to sources,Mitra is having consultations with the party high command in New Delhi and they are eager to rehabilitate him in the party with the respect he deserves. He may be given the post of the PCC chief as he still has a lot of followers across the state, sources said.
