Cong sends 2 leaders,targets Modi

The Congress on Sunday rushed two of its senior leaders to Uttarakhand

The Congress on Sunday rushed two of its senior leaders to Uttarakhand to coordinate the partys relief measures as it continued to proactively showcase its efforts in an attempt to insulate itself from the criticism being drawn by the state government. The Congress also targeted Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of milking the tragedy for political reasons.

The political war of words between the Congress and the BJP continued on Sunday.

After having activated the party machinery to participate in the relief efforts, the Congress did not shy away from trying to make some political capital out of it.

AICC treasurer Motilal Vora and general secretary Ambika Soni were rushed to the state to oversee the relief efforts. The party announced that its president Sonia Gandhi will flag off truck loads of relief material from New Delhi on Monday.

Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan joined party leaders in targeting Modi. He said the need of the hour was to focus all attention in saving people stranded in the affected areas and suggested that one should not trivialise it. It should not be converted into a PR exercise, Chavan said.

Iamp;B Minister Manish Tewari was more aggressive. It is indeed unfortunate that when a part of India is trying to grapple with a natural disaster, there are some people who are absolutely unabashed in politicising it. They had to go to Pathankot so they make a tourist detour via Uttarakhand and start claiming they were able to rescue people, Tewari said.

Modi was in Pathankot on Sunday to address a rally.
