Taking its Commonwealth Games probe beyond the Organising Committee, the CBI on Thursday raided the premises of six NDMC officials, two CPWD officials and three private firms in NCR,Mumbai and Kolkata in connection with the upgrading and renovation of stadia. The CBI registered three cases and said next in line are Delhi government officials who sanctioned the projects to ineligible firms. The CBI claimed to have seized cash, jewellery, property documents and fixed deposit receipts from the accused officials J K Katyal,K K Motraja,V P Gupta and R S Thakur,Sanjay Sen Gupta and V K Gulati of of NDMC,and Sharad Bhatia and H S Dogra of CPWD. Shivaji stadium and Talkatora stadium were upgraded at a cost of over Rs 225 crore. The accused officials entered into a criminal conspiracy with the private firms. They abused their official position and awarded contracts at exorbitant rates, which has resulted in wrongful gain to the firms and corresponding loss to the NDMC, said CBI spokeswoman Dharini Mishra. The CBI said the contract for renovating Shivaji Stadium was awarded to China Railway Shishu Group Corporation, which had no prior experience of working in India on any government project. Six firms had bid for the project. It was also found that China Railway sublet the project to Simplex projects, which did not qualify the conditions laid by the OC.
