The CBI on Saturday filed a 68-page chargesheet against Kadapa MP and YSR Congress Party chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the alleged illegal assets case. The chargesheet names Jaganmohan as the prime accused, and includes 12 others including suspended senior IAS officer B P Acharya.
Three pharma companies Aurobindo Pharma,Hetero Drugs, and Trident Life Service Ltd have also been named in the chargesheet.
Vice-chairman of Jagathi Publications that publishes Telugu daily Sakshi and Jaganmohans close aide Vijay Sai Reddy is accused number 2. Acharya, who was arrested by CBI in the Emaar case earlier,is accused number 9. Director (Marketing) of Hetero Drugs Srinivas Reddy,MD of Aurobindo Pharma Nityananda Reddy and Director of Trident Life Sciences Sharatchandra Reddy have also been made accused.
CBI officials said supplementary chargesheets will be filed at a later date.
The CBIs primary charge against Jaganmohan is that he influenced his father late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to issue orders that favoured some private companies and inviduals who in turn invested in Jaganmohans businesses in a quid pro quo arrangement.
However,Jaganmohan has been accused only under Prevention of Corruption Act. His counsel Ashok Reddy said he is only accused of abetting his father when he was the chief minister from May 2004 to April 2009 and then again from May 2009 to September 2009. Rajasekhara Reddy died in a helicopter crash on September 2,2009.
The others have been charged with cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy. The three pharma companies allegedly invested in Jagathi Publications,Jaganmohans flagship company,in return for land allotments in SEZs.
The CBI has named 65 witnesses and given 265 documents as proof.
On March 12,the Supreme Court issued notices to six Andhra ministers and eight IAS officers seeking replies on their alleged roles in helping Jaganmohan when his father was the CM.
Jaganmohan, who resigned from the Congress on November 30,2010,and floated his own YSR Congress, declared assets of Rs 365 crore last year.
