As the Liberhan Commission report revived the Ayodhya issue,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday expressed hope that Parliament would function smoothly. We look forward to this session of Parliament beginning tomorrow with great expectation, the PM told reporters after a customary meeting of leaders of parties with Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.

Parliament is the forum where debate can take place8230; It is our sincere desire that Parliament functions smoothly, he added.

Sources said CPIM leader Basudeb Acharia and CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta,while participating in the meeting,demanded that the Government table the Liberhan Commission report in Parliament. It is an important report and we have waited for very long, Acharia said pointing at the 17 years the Commission had taken to complete its work.

Sources said Leader of the Opposition L K Advani,who was present at the meeting,did not say anything on the matter. However,Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav felt the report may generate communal tension. Though an extremely vocal critic of the BJP over the Ayodhya issue,Mulayam has taken a moderate stance due to his tie-up with Kalyan Singh.

Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee contended that the Government would follow the rulebook and table the report along with the action taken report ATR. Acharia demanded the Government first table the report and come out with the ATR later. Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee,meanwhile,said she wanted the House to discuss the Lalgarh issue.
