London: Young British Muslims are being groomed by al-Qaeda for a Mumbai-style attack on targets in Britain,the countrys spy agency has warned. Britains internal intelligence agency MI5 has warned that a new generation of British extremists is being radicalised by West Asia-based Anwar al-Awlaki,who recruited the Detroit plane bomber. They are concerned that Awlakis followers could unleash a wave of easily planned guerrilla-style terrorist attacks similar to the massacre in Mumbai,The Daily Telegraph reported.

Cairo: Authorities in Egypt have arrested a number of American youths on charges of preaching the Mormon doctrine,a faith regarded as a supplemental testament to the Bible. The youths were arrested by the State security intelligence service in the Luxor Governorate on June 8. The arrest came after several Egyptians,who saw them exercising their weird rites,made complaints against them.

Authorities had banned an Opposition rally planned for Saturday,and reformist leaders told their supporters to stay home,fearing for peoples lives. There was a heavy security presence in Tehran. Defeated presidential candidate Mir Hussein Moussavi said the movement is alive,but his campaign is fading as many Iranians feel the former Prime Minister lacks the political courage to confront the establishment from which he sprang.

New York: A bidder has agreed to pay $2.63 million for a steak lunch with the billionaire investor Warren Buffett in a charity auction held on eBay Incs website. The highest bid in the 11th annual auction topped the previous record $2.11 million paid in 2008 by Zhao Danyang,a Hong Kong investor. Wealth manager Salida Capital Corp of Toronto won with a $1.68 million bid in 2009. The winner and up to seven friends will dine with one of the richest men in the world at the Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in midtown Manhattan.

Washington: An unabashed US Vice-President Joe Biden told President Barack Obama on Friday he was sorry for leaving him behind to manage the oil spill but was thrilled to be watching the World Cup. I am honoured to be representing the United States. The President is angry, Biden told a group of dignitaries at the US consulate in Sandton. Biden,who arrived in South Africa about a day ahead of the kick-off to the sports spectacle,told the group not to take the US side lightly. London: Catherine Zeta-Jones has been made a Commander in the Order of the British Empire. The 40-year-old actress who left the UK for Hollywood more than a decade ago,is the surprise recipient of the knighthood in the Queens Birthday Honours List,reported Daily Mail online. The Welsh actress was among 975 entertainers,sports stars and military heroes recognised for their achievements in the final honours list of the last government. I am absolutely thrilled with this honour. As a British subject,I feel incredibly proud,at the same time it is overwhelming and humbling. My mum and dad are delighted beyond belief, she said.
