Warsaw: Polish politicians have called for a boycott of a local brewer after it advertised Cold Lech on a giant billboard near the tomb of President Lech Kaczynski following his death in a plane crash. The conservative Opposition Law and Justice party PiS said it was inappropriate to promote Lech beer across the river from the royal castle in Krakow,where the late President is buried in a crypt.

MOSCOW: The leader of Chechnyas separatist militants,who claimed responsibility for the Moscow subway bombings that killed 40 people in March,has purportedly announced in a video posted on YouTube that he is stepping down. Doku Umarov says in the grainy footage that he is ceding leadership to a younger and more energetic deputy. The authenticity of the video could not be verified.

BUCHAREST: A 25-year-old Romanian woman who weighed 240 kg when she gave birth to a baby girl more than five months ago has died,media reported on Monday. Relatives of Victoria Lacatus said she died of a heart attack Sunday after developing a high fever and breathing problems. Doctors from Craiova hospital in southern Romania said Lacatus heart stopped.

Lindsay Lohan released from jail,sent into rehab

LOS ANGELES: Lindsay Lohan was released from jail early on Monday after serving 13 days of a 90-day sentence and taken straight into a rehabilitation programme,said the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. Lohan,24 was sentenced last month after violating her probation on a 2007 drunk-driving charge by missing a string of alcohol education classes. She booked into an all-female jail in south Los Angeles on July 20 and was placed in solitary confinement 8212; a blow to newspaper headline writers who had excitedly predicted she would be victimised by lesbian gangs.

Change of date for Prince Alberts 2011 wedding

PARIS: The nuptials of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock,a former Olympic swimmer from South Africa,have been moved up by a week. Monacos royal palace says the wedding festivities,originally scheduled for July 8 and 9 of next year,will now take place on July 2 and 3. In a statement on Sunday,the palace said the charge was made to accommodate a July 5-9 meeting in Durban,South Africa by the International Olympic Committee. The palace says the couple wished for the presence of the Olympic family by their sides. Alfred and Wittstock met in 2000 in Monaco.
