12 killed in twin blasts at police complex in Pak
Peshawar/Islamabad: Two powerful blasts,including one triggered by a suicide bomber,ripped through a police complex killing at least 12 people,many of them policemen,and injuring over 20 in Bannu district of northwest Pakistan on Thursday. A suicide bomber blew himself up near a gate at the heavily guarded police lines in Bannu at 6.40 pm and the second blast occurred minutes later near a hospital within the complex,witnesses said.
Arizona girl escapes home prison: Police
Phoenix: A 14-year-old Phoenix girl was fed once every day or two,maybe some crackers or a can of food,police said. She was locked in a bathroom without running water for two months,forced to use a bucket instead of a toilet,police said. She told police her father beat her with metal rods and belts. The girl managed to escape,and her father and stepmother were arrested for child abuse and unlawful imprisonment.
Life term for NRI curry murderer
London: Lakhvir Singh,the Southhall-based Indian-origin woman who killed her lover out of jealousy by poisoning his curry with aconite,was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment. Her life sentence was pronounced at the Old Bailey and she must serve a minimum of 23 years.

Honolulu: A defence attorney says a man was homeless and drunk when he threatened to kill President Barack Obama as the first family vacationed in Hawaii. Powell was sentenced on Wednesday in Honolulu to the four days he earlier spent in jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanour threat to assault a US official.
