560 arrests in London rioting
LONDON: A Scotland Yard official says 560 people have now been arrested in London after three days of unprecedented rioting. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stephen Kavanagh said police have been stretched to an extent never seen before.
Kavanagh said Tuesday such plastic bullets are one of tactics being considered. Such bullets have never been used before during British disturbances.
First death in riots: Man shot in car
LONDON: A 26-year-old man shot in a car during riots here died in a hospital on Tuesday,becoming the first fatal casualty of unrest the unrest that has spread from London to other cities. The Metropolitan Police launched a probe after the man was found with gunshot wounds in his car on Monday night in Croydon,a south London suburb.
No proof man shot by police fired gun
LONDON: A watchdog investigating the fatal shooting of a man by the police,which sparked rioting in London,said Tuesday there was no evidence a handgun retrieved at the scene had been fired. Reports initially suggested 29-year-old Mark Duggan had shot at the police. The Independent Police Complaints Commission IPCC said Duggans death came after two shots were fired by a special firearms officer.

TOKYO: The US has sent its first representative to the annual memorial for the atomic bombing of Nagasaki,as the Japanese city remembered the historic horrors of radiation. The US sent its Charge dAffaires James P Zumwalt to the memorial.
US hijacking Egypt revolution: Zawahri
CAIRO: Al-Qaedas new leader has accused the US,in an audio message on a extremist website,of hijacking Egypts popular uprising. Ayman al-Zawahri said the US has led a transition of power which protects its interests and turned the popular revolution into a military coup.
22 killed as Syria launches new raids
BEIRUT: The Syrian army launched a series of new raids around the country,which activists said killed 22 people. Envoys from India,Brazil and South Africa headed to Damascus to press for an end to the violence. Indias UN Ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri said Indias representative is scheduled to arrive in Damascus on Tuesday.
S Korea man dies in plane,likely a suicide
SEOUL: The police in South Korea said a passenger found hanged in a plane bathroom apparently killed himself during the flight. The man was found hanging in an Asiana Airlines flight.
