Italian parliament panel approves burqa ban

ROME: An Italian parliamentary commission Tuesday approved a draft law banning women from wearing face-covering veils in public. The draft passed by the constitutional affairs commission would prohibit women from wearing a burqa,naqib or any other garb that covers the face. The draft will be forwarded to parliament after the summer recess.

Muslims in US have sense of well-being: Poll

WASHINGTON: Muslim Americans have felt a surge in their sense of well-being,with the percentage of Muslims saying they were thriving in the US up 19 per cent since 2008,according to a Gallup poll released Tuesday. The poll found 60 per cent of Muslim Americans felt they were thriving,slightly higher than for Americans of any other religion except for Jews.

SULAIMANIYAH: A car bomb outside a Christian church in the city of Kirkuk wounded 23 people Tuesday,the police said,as security forces found and disabled vehicles packed with explosives outside two other parishes in the north.

KABUL: A suicide bomber blew up his car outside a small residential hotel frequented by foreigners Tuesday,killing four guards,as two other militants stormed the hotel in Kunduz city and engaged the police in a two-hour gunbattle. The Taliban claimed responsibility.
