Noida land scam: Bail to Neera,Chaturvedi
Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted bail to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Neera Yadav and industrialist Ashok Chaturvedi who were sentenced to four years imprisonment in a Noida land scam case last week. Justice Vinod Prasad passed the order on bail petitions of Yadav. Yadav,62,and Chaturvedi,57,were lodged in the high-security Dasna jail in Ghaziabad on December 7.
Maoists fire on voters,target poll party
CHAIBASA/CHATRA: Suspected Maoists fired on voters in Jharkhands West Singhbhum district and targeted a polling party in Chatra during the third phase of the panchayat elections on Monday. No one was hurt. Maoists opened fire on voters in Parangir village but fled later,West Singhbhum SP A K Singh said. In Chatra,Maoists triggered a landmine blast in Rajpur village minutes after a polling party crossed the area,police said said.
Madani moves HC for bail
Bangalore: Kerala-based PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani,an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case,on Monday filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking bail. Madani,under judicial custody since his arrest on August 17 last,sought bail on the ground that there was no prima facie evidence against him to implicate him in the blasts,his counsel P Usman said. The bail plea was likely to come up for hearing in a day or two.
FAI director Vijay Jadhav dead
Pune: Film Archives of India FAI director Vijay Jadhav died here on Monday after a massive heart attack. He was 43. Jadhav had taken charge of the FAI three years ago after serving as deputy director of Doordarshan Mumbai. He had earlier also held charge of the Press Information Bureau office in Pune.
Ex-Jkhand ministers properties attached
Ranchi/New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate ED has attached several properties of former Jharkhand minister Enos Ekka in connection with its probe into the multi-crore illegal investments and hawala case against him. Official sources said the process,which was started in the middle of this year,has been completed with the Adjudicating Authority recently upholding EDs move. The ED is in the process of attaching properties of other aides of former state CM Madhu Koda.
Mamatas mother admitted to ICCU
KOLKATA: Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjees mother Gayatri Bandopadhyay was admitted to Belle View Nursing Home on Monday. She had been suffering from various age-related complications for a long time and was admitted in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit ICCU after she fell seriously ill. Banerjee along with supporters and leaders of her party visited the hospital.
