NEW DELHI: Vivek Katju,a senior official of the MEA who has been blamed by the former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for the failure of the 2001 Indo-Pak summit in Agra,on Tuesday refused to comment on the matter. Maine dekha hai I have seen it, Katju said, responding to the recent comments made by the former Pakistani Army Chief,who is living in exile in Britain. Katju,who is now Secretary West in the MEA.

SC to drop charges if Bhushan apologises

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday offered to drop contempt proceedings against advocate Prashant Bhushan if he tenders an apology for casting aspersions on Chief Justice S H Kapadia and various other former CJIs. A special bench made the offer after senior counsel Ram Jethmalani,even while defending the alleged aspersions,said Bhushan considered the Learned Chief Justice of India Kapadia the model of integrity. Bhushan is facing contempt proceedings for his alleged comments during an interview to Tehelka magazine in 2009.

Indians can now tune into Al-Jazeera

NEW DELHI: Indian television viewers can now tune into Al-Jazeera,with the government granting licence to the Qatar-based English news channel after a four-year wait. Al-Jazeera has been given permission for downlinking their channel as per Indian norms, a senior Information and Broadcasting Ministry official told PTI here on Tuesday. However,the the exact date of launch in India is not known.

Sonia will not celebrate birthday

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will not celebrate her birthday this year to avoid inconvenience to partymen coming to Delhi from outside to greet her. She will turn 65 on December 9. In view of her decision,AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi appealed to party workers from various states not to come to Delhi for greeting their leader.

Tribunal upholds IAF officer dismissal

NEW DELHI: The Armed Forces Tribunal has upheld the dismissal of a senior non-commissioned officer who was sacked from the Indian Air Force for allegedly molesting a child inside a temple here. Warrant Officer Shashikant Tiwari had filed the plea urging the Tribunal to quash his dismissal and reinstate him with all consequential benefits in service. He was dismissed from service without pension after a fellow officer complained that Tiwari had tried to misbehave with his minor son inside the temple premises at the station.

7 cops booked for killing accused

ETAH: Seven policemen were booked for allegedly beating to death a man who was an accused in a case,police said on Tuesday. A Station House Officer,whose name was not immediately available,Sub-Inspector Vedprakash Saini and five unidentified policemen have been accused of beating Nandram to death on Monday in Narhuli village,they said.

Man found dead on railway tracks

KANPUR: The body of a person,who was reported to be missing was found on a railway tracks in Shyam Nagar area of the city on Tuesday,police said. Bhaskar Jaiswal,21,was found dead on railway tracks in Shyam Nagar Tuesday morning. He was apparently hit by a train,police said,adding that he was missing since Monday from Chakery area of the city and his father Dharmendra Jaiswal had filed a complaint in this regard.
