Principal,3 held for sexual harassment
AHMEDABAD: Police arrested principal Jayantilal Patel and three other professors of N C Bodiwala Commerce College on Monday,after three women,teachers at the same college,alleged sexual and mental harassment. Alleging that they did not get appropriate redressal after they reported the matter to the grievance redressal committee of the college and of Gujarat University,they filed a police complaint.
Naxals slit throats of 3 tribals in Orissa
Bhubaneswar: Maoists on Monday slit throats of three tribals in Orissas Sundargarh district suspecting them to be police informers. The Peoples Liberation Guerilla Army,which fights under the leadership of the CPI Maoist,had abducted the three including a ward member and a teacher from Topadihi in the district.
Sarabjit lawyer to file fresh mercy plea
CHANDIGARH: The lawyer of Sarabjit Singh,on death row in Pakistan,on Monday said there is fresh evidence to prove his innocence in the 1990 blasts case and that he has filed a fresh mercy petition. Sarabjits is a case of mistaken identity. I have collected ample evidence against the real culprit which will be presented in court, lawyer Awais Sheikh,who is here to attend a seminar,said.
First courier flight takes off
SRINAGAR: Indian Air Force on Monday began courier service for Kargil in J-Ks Ladakh region. The first flight took off from Kargil to Srinagar with 21 passengers on board,an official spokesman said. Government has started the courier flights as Ladakh remains cut off from the rest of the state due to heavy snowfall which blocks the road link from Srinagar to Kargil and Leh.
3 dead as car in MLA convoy hits truck
LUCKNOW: Three persons died and four others were injured when an SUV accompanying Independent MLA Akhilesh Singhs car collided with a truck in Rae Barelis Unchahar area on Monday. The police seized the truck,but the driver escaped. Akhilesh Singh remained unharmed. The police said the incident occurred when the vehicle tried to overtake a jeep and collided with the truck.
60 vote in 2nd phase of Jkhand rural polls
RANCHI: About sixty percent polling was recorded at the end of the second phase panchayat polls in Jharkhand as women voters turned out in large numbers,defying the Maoists poll boycott. Overall polling percentage will cross sixty percent as the poll ended at 3 pm without any untoward incident, chief secretary A K Singh said. In all 71 blocks spread over 23 of the 24 districts went for the second phase polling amid tight security.
