Nandigram firing: SC notice to Bengal govt
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the West Bengal government on a CBI plea to allow criminal prosecution against police officers accused in the Nandigram firing incident of March 2007. A bench of Justices asked the state to file its counter-affidavit within two weeks.
Pay cut for cops for delayed probes
GHAZIABAD: To expedite probe in various criminal cases,the Ghaziabad Police authorities have decided to deduct salaries of its officers who failed to complete in time investigations into the cases assigned to them. According to SSP Raghuvir Lal,salaries of nine sub-inspectors in the district will be deducted on the basis of the number of cases pending with them.
Every 75th person breaks law in Meerut
MEERUT: Every 75th person in UPs Meerut district is a law breaker,claimed a senior police official on Monday. In last eight months,as many as 39,184 people have been booked in criminal cases in the district which has a population of about 30 lakh.
Post office scam: 2 arrested
NEW DELHI: The CBI on Monday claimed to have busted a post office scam of over Rs 2 crore relating to senior citizen savings scheme SCSS and have arrested two persons in this connection. The agency arrested the two,Ripal Shah and Ankit Shah,after it was detected that Rs 2.56 crore had been withdrawn from closed SCSS accounts at a post office in Vadodara in connivance with post office officials.
71 kids fall sick after mid-day meal
GUWAHATI: At least 71 students of a lower primary school located in Dibrugarh district in upper Assam,fell ill and had to be shifted to the Assam Medical College Hospital after taking mid-day meal on Monday. Most of them have recovered,except nine who were still undergoing treatment. A probe has been ordered into the incident.
MLA orders bulletproof car
GHAZIABAD: Local MLA Madan Bhaiya,charged in several criminal cases,has placed an order with a private company in Gurgaon for a Rs 40 lakh-bulletproof car for himself. Senior Superintendent of Police Raghubir Lal said the MLA had not sought permission from police and a criminal case was registered against the MLA in Loni police station.
