Drunk cop kills 2,mob hacks him to death

RAIPUR: A mob attacked and later hacked to death a police constable who in an inebriated condition opened indiscriminate firing killing two civilians at village Bakarkatta in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. A police spokesman said that the incident took place on Wednesday at village Bakarkatta,about 110 kilometers away from the district headquarters of Rajnandgaon,when state police constable Ashwini Verma opened fire from his service rifle,killing two villagers on the spot over a petty dispute. The deceased have been identified as Dinesh and Bhagwan. The local villagers have refused to hand over the body of the constable to the police.

Irfan Pathans mother moves HC

AHMEDABAD: Mother of cricketers Irfan and Yusuf Pathan,Samimbanu Pathan has approached the Gujarat High Court challenging a Vadodara-based Civil Court8217;s order asking them to hand over the property owned by them in Tanishq Complex on the Old Padra Road to the tenant,from whom the family had taken possession of it allegedly through illegal means. The petition filed by Samimbanu is expected to come up for hearing on Thursday. The tenant,Kalpana Rochani had filed a civil suit against the Pathans last year.

MP docs to go on relay hunger strike

BHOPAL: The agitating junior doctors in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday decided to intensify their agitation from Thursday by going on a relay hunger-strike in support of their demands despite Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan8217;s ultimatum to withdraw the strike within 48 hours. Over 1,100 junior doctors who had been on strike since last week had already tendered their resignations paralysing the health services in the state.

Airport black-out after seepage

KOLKATA: Seepage of rainwater into the emergency back-up generator at the international airport here caused a 10-minute blackout in a runway,affecting flight operations on Monday night,airport officials said here Wednesday. Preliminary investigations suggest that as the power supply went off,the emergency back-up generator failed to function due to seepage of rainwater,causing a mechanical fault, an airport official told reporters. There was total black-out in the runway and the taxiway for 10 minutes,forcing the Air Traffic Control ATC to ask a flight of Air-India and another of Singapore Airlines to delay take-off.

Board rules in favour of FM stations

NEW DELHI: The Copyright Board on Wednesday ruled in favour of FM radio stations,ordering a revenue sharing model for royalty awards. While radio stations spend up to 20 per cent of their revenue on royalty,it will now drop to 2 per cent of net advertisement revenue,sources said. The move will spell a big relief for radio operators who had to award royalty to music companies at a fixed rate so far,regardless of the area they were operating in. The new order will even out geographical disparities as well,sources said.
