First Malayalam talkie heroine dead
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: M K Kamalam,who was the heroine of the first Malayalam talkie Balan,died at her Kottyam house on Tuesday. The actress,86,was not keeping well for some time. She is survived by three daughters. Her husband V K Damodaran died a few years ago.
Sena targets SRK over Mannat name
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena on Wednesday criticised actor Shah Rukh Khan for changing the name of Villa Vienna,the heritage bungalow which he purchased,to Mannat. Speaking during a debate on Mumbai in the Legislative Assembly,Sena group leader Subhash Desai said the need of the hour was to protect heritage sites in the city.
SC allows Sanjay Dutt to travel abroad
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave permission to actor Sanjay Dutt,convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case,to travel abroad for shooting a film. A Bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan,Justices Deepak Verma and B S Chauhan granted Dutts plea for extending his stay abroad till December 31,2010 and asked the CBI to release his passport.
Jaslok CEO summoned,reprimanded by House
MUMBAI: Jaslok Hospital CEO Manesh Masand was on Wednesday summoned by the Legislative Council and reprimanded for his non-cooperative behaviour with the House Committee reviewing implementation of norms governing trust hospitals. The breach of privilege motion was moved against Masand in 2008,for non-cooperation with a seven-member committee appointed to probe if private hospital trusts should provide obligatory free medical treatment to poor patients.
Woman arrested for lesbian marriage
NAGAON ASSAM: A 20-year-old woman was arrested from Hatigaon for marrying a 14-year-old girl,with whom she had gone missing last month,the police said here on Wednesday. The woman,Rupa Bania of Ranthali village,was arrested while the girl Jimpi Hazarika was handed over to her parents.
Navy man held for molestation
MUMBAI: A Navy man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a teenager in Colaba. Vikram Singh 45 was in an inebriated state when he molested the teenager and beat up her father who intervened. S-I Sachin More of the Colaba police station said,Complainant Bhagwan Shah and his daughter 17 were on his way home when Singh misbehaved with the girl.
Deaths rising,Orissa seeks heat wave relief
BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government has asked the Centre to include heat wave in the list compiled for calamity relief fund. This,it said,would help victims families. With six more deaths reported this year,the death toll due to sunstroke has mounted to 59 in Orissa.
