Profs as guardians to check ragging

KANPUR: To check ragging,a medical college here has appointed professors as the local guardians of freshers. In all,19 professors have been given the responsibility to guard 190 students, Principal of Ganesh Shankar Medical College Dr Anand Swarup said on Tuesday. Though ragging is banned,new students still have some fear of seniors. Just to instill confidence in them,we have taken this step, Swarup said. Each student will have the mobile number of their group teacher and will be able to personally contact him or her for help,he said.

Emergency landing for AI Express flight

CHENNAI: An Air India Express flight from Singapore with 100 passengers on board en route to Tiruchirapalli made an emergency landing at Anna International Airport on Tuesday,following a technical snag. Airport sources said the pilot identified the snag mid-air and requested clearance for landing,which was given immediately. They added the flight was towed to an isolated bay for rectifying the snag.

Oman vessel rescued by Coast Guard

RAJKOT: The Indian Coast Guard has rescued six crew members of an Oman vessel Sakar-7,off Porbandar coast in Arabian sea. The vessel was drifting for last 11 days due to a technical snag in the engine and entered Indian waters,an official release said.
