41 pilgrims die in UP accident
BALLIA: At least 41 pilgrims were killed on Monday when a tractor-trolley in which they were travelling overturned in a waterlogged ditch in Nagra area of the district. The incident occurred on Monday morning when the tractor-trolley carrying around 60 pilgrims to Sati Mata Temple in the district turned turtle near Gauapar village,police said. UP Chief Minister Mayawati announced a compensation to the injured and to the kin of deceased.
UP infant dies after measles vaccination
LUCKNOW: An infant died allegedly after being vaccinated against measles in Malihabad area,officials said here Monday. 20-day-old Anju was administered the vaccine at Malihabad community health centre on Saturday,they said. After vaccination,the child died at her home in the evening. Health officials,including CMO Ashok Mishra,visited the health centre and conducted a inspection,they said.
5 of Bihar family die as house catches fire
PATNA: FIVE members of an OBC family,including three children,died as their house caught fire late on Sunday night at Haspura,Aurangabad. Relatives said the family,being unable to give compliance of first instalment of Indira Awas Fund,torched themselves to death because of depression.
Police said investigations did not suggest suicide as two children of family sleeping in another room survived.
Longest periscope in world at Kalpakkam
COIMBATORE: A 10-meter long periscope,indigenously developed for a nuclear reactor at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research IGCAR in Kalpakkam and claimed to be the longest in the world,was dedicated to the nation on Monday. The Rs 3.9-crore periscope,manufactured by city-based Visual Education Aids in collaboration with IGCAR,would be used in the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor to view objects inside the reactor during maintenance.
