Two killed in police firing,clash
BURDWAN (WB): Two persons,claimed to be Trinamool Congress supporters,were killed in police firing and 32 others,including policemen,were injured in clashes at a village in Burdwan district on Wednesday. The police resorted to firing after being attacked with bombs and stones in Jotsadi village,under Raina police station,Superintendent of Police R Rajsekharan said. Hasmat Mullik (35) and Kajol Molla (30) were taken to Burdwan Medical College Hospital where they were declared brought dead,hospital sources said.
Nityananda: HC dismisses plea
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday rejected a plea by self-styled godman Nityananda for furnishing him a copy of the chargesheet filed against him by CID in connection with a rape case he faced. Justice C R Kumaraswamy also dismissed an application by Nityananda who had sought a direction to the CID not to file the chargesheet,on the ground that it has already been submitted before the jurisdictional magistrate.
15 killed,89 injured in TN mishap
THENI: Fifteen passengers,including seven women and two children,were killed and 89 injured when an overspeeding private bus collided with another bus near Andipatti in Theni district of Tamil Nadu Wednesday night. The speeding bus rammed into the other bus and overturned under the impact of the collision at S S Puram junction,about 16 km from here,police said.
Brahmos likely to be tested today
BALASORE (ORISSA): Brahmos cruise missile is likely to be flight tested from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur off Orissa coast tomorrow. Range co-ordination for the trial of Brahmos missile proposed to be conducted is near complete, an official of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) said. Brahmos,developed jointly with Russia,is a supersonic cruise missile and capable of being launched from multiple platforms like submarine,ship,aircraft and land based Mobile Autonomous Launchers (MAL).
