2 BSNL staff die of asphyxiation
NAGPUR: Three persons,including two BSNL employees and a driver,died reportedly due to inhaling poisonous gas. The employees were involved in cable-joining work outside a shop when Vitthal Sakharkar 44 fell into a sewage manhole. His colleague Chintaman Shende 46 rushed to rescue him,but met the same fate. Baldev,the driver of a vehicle hired by the BSNL standing nearby,followed the two.
South DGPs meet to begin today
HYDERABAD: The conference of Director Generals of Police DGP of Andhra Pradesh,Tamil Nadu,Karnataka,Kerala and Puducherry will begin here on Wednesday. The DGPs will attend the meet with their teams of CID and intelligence officers. The purpose is to exchange information and extend mutual cooperation among the southern states,said Minister for Home Sabita Reddy.
BSP leader shot dead in Ambedkar Nagar
LUCKNOW: An ex-head of Bheethi block and local Bahujan Samaj Party BSP leader,Subhash Singh,was shot dead in Mahrua area of Ambedkar Nagar district on Tuesday night. The motive behind the murder is yet to be known.
Mumbai train blasts trial adjourned
MUMBAI: The trial in the July 11,2006 serial train blasts case was on Tuesday adjourned till August 12 after four accused failed to appoint a lawyer to defend them. Kamal Ansari,Md Ali,Etheshaam Siddiqui and Md Maji,had on the last hearing on August 4 sought to discontinue the services of their lawyers,R B Mokashi and Khalid Azmi,saying they were not satisfied with their lawyers legal acumen.
Gujarat invokes ESMA against striking nurses
AHMEDABAD: A total of 193 striking nurses of the U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre were rounded up by the police after the state government on Tuesday invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act ESMA against them. The nurses are seeking leave benefits,hike in salary,mediclaim,fixed working hours,and permanent jobs for the last nine months.
Cong leader moves SC against HC order
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Kodikkunnil Suresh on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court against a Kerala High Court decision to set aside his electoral win from the Mavelikkara reserved Lok Sabha constituency on the grounds that he did not belong to the Scheduled Caste. The petition is likely to come up for preliminary hearing on Thursday.
Minor girl buried alive by uncle
LUCKNOW: An eight-year-old girl was on Tuesday buried alive by her uncle who believed that sacrificing the minor would end his woes,the police said,Munau was buried alive by her uncle Shiv Kumar Yadav in Bangrahan village in Tarabganj area of Gondaa district Tuesday,ADGP Law and Order Brij Lal said. Shiv Kumar has been arrested and the body sent for post-mortem.
