Missing luggage: Armymen halt train
Rangiya Assam: Army personnel halted the North East Express at gunpoint and went on rampage after an officers suitcase was found missing from the Delhi-bound train at Rangiya. Colonel A K Singhs suitcase reportedly contained important official documents. The train resumed its journey after a delay of more than an hour.
18 injured in UP communal clash
Rae Bareli UP: At least 18 people were injured in a clash between members of two communities over the route of a religious procession in Parsadepur in Rae Bareli district on Sunday. The trouble started when some persons objected to the route of the religious procession,the police said adding the two sides indulged in heavy stone-pelting.
23 students hurt in Gujarat college fire
Bharuch: Nearly 23 students of a girls Primary Teacher Training PTT college sustained severe burn injuries after fire broke out in their classroom in Valia taluk of the district here on Sunday. The incident took place in Navsarjan Girls PTT College of Thava village in Valia taluk. An electric short-circuit in the classroom caused the fire.
58-year-old delivers twins in Gujarat
Vadodara: Fifty eight-year-old Bhanuben Patel from Bhandu village near Mehsana gave birth to twins- a boy and a girl- at a maternity home on Saturday. Bhanuben,working as a teacher,said,I am very happy and excited on becoming mother of twins a male infant and a female infant. I opted for test tube technique.
Couple commit suicide in Bengal
Krishnagar WB: Driven by poverty,a couple committed suicide at Haritala in Nadia district on Sunday. Sujay Biswas 23 and Riya 18 allegedly consumed poison and died at a hospital here,the police said. Sujay was a daily labourer. Neighbours said the couple had no income in recent times.
TTE roughed up for pushing youth
Vadodara: Passengers of a Mumbai-bound train attacked a ticket examiner TTE alleging that he had pushed a ticketless youth from the train causing his death. TTE B B Sharma was admitted to a railway hospital where his condition was said to be critical,A Srivastava,DRM-Vadodara,said. Shrivastava said he had formed a three-member fact finding team to inquire into the incident.
Communal violence Bill against Muslims: Personal Law Board
Lucknow: Terming the proposed Prevention of Communal Violence Bill as harmful for Muslims,the All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Sunday said it would oppose the legislation till it was redrafted. The proposed Bill is not only useless,but is also harmful for Muslims. The AIMPLB would oppose the Bill till the time it is redrafted, the boards Assistant General Secretary Maulana Abdur Rahim Qureshi said.
