NEW DELHI: Actor Aamir Khan has withdrawn his resignation and is back on the expert panel on copyright issues,sources in the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry said on Friday. Khan had resigned from the 10-member expert panel after his arguments with lyricist Javed Akhtar on the issue had been made public. In a letter to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal,Khan on Friday said he was taking back his resignation.

Three Surat rapists get life in jail

SURAT: A Surat court on Friday sentenced three men to life in jail for abducting and gang-raping a minor girl last year. District Judge R P Dholariya found the three men Saiyed Shahid,23,Abubakar Memon,32,and Saiyed Tariq,21 guilty of abducting a 17-year-old girl while she,along with a male friend,was on her way to a coaching centre and gang-raping her,and filming the act with their mobiles,in a moving car on the morning of June 12,2009.

Police teams to trace CITU leader

CHENNAI: Police Commissioner T Rajendran has said they have formed three special teams to trace senior Marxist leader W R Varadarajan who was removed from all CPM posts recently. A trade union veteran who has been with the CPM since the early sixties,WR was expelled from the central committee and state committee recently due to undisclosed reasons. However,he continues to be a secretary of the CITU at least till next month when the union is meeting to elect office-bearers for the next term.

Actors manager booked for attack

CHENNAI: Police have registered a case against the manager of actor Ajith Kumar for allegedly instigating an attack on a stunt choreographers residence on Thursday. Participating in a function organised by the film fraternity to felicitate CM M Karunanidhi,Ajith had requested the CM to help the actors who were allegedly arm-twisted into attending sensitive social and political functions. Irked by the speech,Jaguar Thangam,a stunt choreographer,criticised Ajith,which allegedly led to the attack on his residence on Thursday.

Twelve killed,4 hurt in highway mishap

Raigad: Twelve people,including two children,were killed and four others injured when their speeding jeep overturned and was hit by a truck on the Goa-Mumbai Highway early on Friday. Two familes had hired the Sumo in Mumbai to attend a wedding ceremony at Khed in Ratnagiri district.
