2 teens commit suicide after losing match

Patna: Two teenagers committed suicide by consuming pesticide after losing a village cricket match in Arwal. While one boy died on Sunday night,the other died at Patna Medical College and Hospital on Monday. The police said the incident took place at Telpa village under Karpi police stations when Golu 13 and Rakesh 14,sons of farmers,lost a cricket match to boys from the same village.

44 Indians evacuated from Ivory Coast

New Delhi: A group of 44 Indians have been evacuated from Abidjan,the capital of civil war-torn Ivory Coast,to neighbouring Ghana,taking the total number of Indians who have been shifted in last one week to 110. They were received on arrival by officials of the High Commission of India and rendered necessary consular and other assistance.

Crocodiles kill woman in Vadodara

Vadodara: Amina Yakub Diwan,a resident of Kothwada village in Padra taluka of Vadodara,had gone to wash clothes on the banks of Dadhar river near Karjan-Padra road on Sunday afternoon when three crocodiles attacked her,dragging her into the river. Amina died on the spot. The villagers who had gathered at the place hearing Amina scream could do little to save her.

Mining scam: HC completes hearing

Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court on Monday completed hearing into a slew of public interest litigations calling for a CBI probe into the multi-crore mining scam that has rocked the state since 2009,and reserved the verdict. Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda and Justice B N Mahapatra heard the last arguments from advocate Jayant Das who pleaded that the vigilance probe ordered by the state government could be illegal as the vigilance doesnt have the jurisdiction in a case involving the Mining Minerals Development Regulation Act.

No action against tainted officers: NGO

Bhubaneswar: Transparency International India Board member Biswajit Mohanty in a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik two days ago complained that there has been a wilful delay in sanctioning of prosecution of 41 IAS,IFS and IPS officers despite corruption charges pending against them for long. Though there is a time limit of two months to decide upon such requests for sanction,there have been long delays which clearly shows how the government is sabotaging the efforts of its own anti-corruption wing to punish officers accused of corruption, he alleged.

TNCC chief held for holding agitation

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief K V Thangkabalu was arrested here on Monday for holding agitations against the alleged killing of Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. The Congress leader was staging a protest along with hundreds of party workers in Mylapore when he was arrested.

EC to visit Egypt for elections
