Bookie Shobhan Mehta arrested from Goa hotel

Mehta,51,is suspected to have been in touch with three IPL players as well as Vindoo Dara Singh

Top bookie Shobhan Mehta alias Shobhan Kalachowkie,who had fled to Dubai in May after the IPL betting scandal was uncovered,was arrested by the Mumbai Police from a hotel room in Goa Friday.

Mehta,51,is suspected to have been in touch with three IPL players as well as Vindoo Dara Singh,who was arrested in connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal.

Police suspect that Mehta placed bets of up to Rs 5 crore on each IPL game through five trusted bookies.

Mehta,who has been arrested in the past,was at the centre of the match-fixing scandal of 2000 when he allegedly roped in cricketers Hansie Cronje,Mohammed Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja.
