BJP corporator,aides booked for assault on journalist

A case has been registered against a BJP corporator and 12 others for allegedly assaulting a journalist in Raigarh town of Chhattisgarh

A case has been registered against a BJP corporator and 12 others for allegedly assaulting a journalist in Raigarh town of Chhattisgarh. No arrest has been made so far,police said.

Praveen Tripathi 36,Korba bureau chief of Patrika,a Hindi daily,was allegedly assaulted by BJP corporator Ashish Tamrakar and his supporters Thursday,a police officer said.

A case has been registered under sections 147 rioting,149 unlawful assembly,307 attempt to murder and 342 wrongful confinement against 13 people,including Tamrakar,the officer said.

Tamrakar is a member of Mayor-in-Council at the Raigarh Municipal Corporation. Tripathi said he got a call from an unknown person Thursday regarding irregularities in distribution of ration cards in Chakradhar Nagar area,Tamrakars constituency. When he went there,he was attacked. Apparently the corporator was peeved by a recent report by Tripathi on corruption in RMC.
