The Bihar government on Saturday admitted administrative lapse in the Araria incident in which the toll has gone up to four.
Four persons were killed in a police firing after villagers clashed with the police protesting against the construction of a glucose and starch factorys boundary walls on Friday.
CM Nitish Kumar sent ADGP Headquarters Rajvardhan Sharma and Home Secretary Amir Subhani to the spot. The Home Secretary said they had been trying to speak to villagers enraged at the killings. Bhajanpur villagers have not yet carried out their last rites.
The ADGP said the police had opened 10 rounds of firing after the mob had become uncontrollable.
We are trying to ascertain why the incident took place when villagers had agreed to the construction of the factorys boundary walls. We will fix responsibility, he said.
The BJP Katihar MLC Ashok Agrawal,who owns the upcoming factory,however,refused to comment.
A senior state government official said the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority had given the BJP MLA 35 acre land for Rs 110-crore project to set up the factory. The factory building has already come up.
