A 27-year-old chemical scientist from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre allegedly committed suicide at her official accommodation on Wednesday.
The body of Titas Pal,who is from Kolkata, was found hanging from a window with a dupatta tied around her neck. She was found by neighbours and colleagues, who had to break open the door after their calls to her went unanswered.
Police said no suicide note was found. According to Trombay police officials, who have registered a case and were investigating,Pal returned from Kolkata on Wednesday after a visit to her family and had also reported for work.
She was working in the Radiochemistry Department. According to her colleagues, she was normal at work and didnt seem disturbed in any way, said J Khandagale,Assistant Commissioner of Police,Trombay division. However,as a habit she would call up her father after returning home from work, which she didnt on Wednesday. When his calls went unanswered,Pals father,a head chemist in Kolkata Electricity Circle, called up one of her colleagues and requested her to check Pals room.
Pals father accompanied by two relatives reached Rajawadi Hospital Thursday afternoon. There was no family tragedy or work related stress that may have led to depression and this act, said a relative.
Police officials said they would be probing all angles. Her marriage had been recently fixed to a doctor in Kolkata and it was reportedly done with her consent, said an official. We will be probing whether there were any fights between the two. We will also be checking her cell phone records.
