On his birthday on January 27,Amar Singh was a visibly dejected man. The reason being that the much-anticipated calls from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi did not come. Although they were in Rae Bareli for the inauguration of a rail coach factory, the SP leader, who had saved the UPA Government only six months back, expected the call. By afternoon Amar Singh was on television channels ruefully complaining how neither Sonia nor Rahul had called up to wish him. Later when a bouquet of flowers from party rebel Raj Babbar landed at his place,Amar Singh quipped: This being election season,I see thorns in the bouquet of flowers. The very next day,Amar Singh announced his party candidate from Fatehpur Sikri,a constituency from where Babbar is set to contest on a Congress ticket.
