Arrest warrant issued against Thachankary

A court in Alappuzha on Friday issued an arrest warrant for suspended Kerala IGP Tomin J Thachankary in connection with a torture case dating back to 1991.

A court in Alappuzha on Friday issued an arrest warrant for suspended Kerala IGP Tomin J Thachankary in connection with a torture case dating back to 1991. The Supreme Court recently rejected Thanchankerys plea that government8217;s sanction was required to prosecute him.

Thachankary,then Alappuzha SP,allegedly took into illegal custody and tortured Prakashan,a resident of Alappuzha,following the death of a woman.

The court was to begin trial in the case Friday,but as Thachankary was absent,the court issued an arrest warrent against him.
