The Kashmir valley on Monday remained relatively calm even as a wounded man succumbed at Sheri Kashmir Institute Medical Sciences SKIMS in Srinagar,taking the death toll in police and Central Reserve Police Force CRPF firing to 62 since June 11.
Twenty-five-year-old Bilal Ahmad Sheikh was wounded on August 14 when the police fired at protesters at Singhpora in Pattan.
On 14.08.2010,a mob of more than 600 people resorted to heavy stone pelting in Singhpora,Pattan. The police tried to chase them away,but the mob did not relent. Police lobbed tear smoke shells and resorted to cane-charge. Sheikh of Kralpora in Pattan got an injury in his leg, says a police statement.
He Sheikh was shifted to Bone and Joint Hospital,where from he was shifted to SKIMS Soura. Doctors did their best to save his life. However,he died due to cardiac arrest this morning.
The doctors,however,said that Sheikh had multiple injuries and has been very critical. Sheikh had firearm injury in thigh and abdomen. His liver had been severely damaged, said Medical Superintendent,SKIMS,Dr Amin Tabish.
As the word about Sheikhs death spread in his native village,hundreds of people took to the streets and staged demonstrations.
However,the Valley remained largely calm on Monday with sporadic incidents of stone pelting and protests.
The state government had imposed curfew in old Srinagar city,Bijbehara and Pulwama towns while restrictions on the civilian movement was imposed in all major towns of the valley.
In south Kashmirs Pulwama,two persons were wounded when police fired rubber bullets to disperse protesters.
On Sunday too,people had staged pro-freedom demonstrations and several people were injured in police action.
